GPOYW - By Keenan, with that new Impossible Project Polaroid film.
(Williamsburg, Brooklyn)
One of my only recurring nightmares has me flying out of a rollercoaster’s too-loose restraints clear into the air. The Cyclone helped me relive this.
“Tax” Photograph of my building on 1st Ave, 1940.
[50-cent print produced from reference microfilm]
I spent Tuesday in City Hall’s Municipal Archives learning about the organization of New York City’s “Tax Photographs” from 1940. This was a set of 35mm images the city captured of every single known address’s exterior between 1939 and 1940.
Composed of more than 720,000 photos, the collection of imagery makes it a startlingly thorough approximation of the Google Street View we already take for granted today.
I also can use a microfilm machine now. More to come from this development.
