Found this while straightening my room. What misdirected fervor I used to have as a technology fanboy.
Don’t recognize it? It’s official merch from a short-lived spinoff of Palm called Handspring. I bought a Handspring Visor as I entered 6th grade with money I received cashing in on the dot.com-era domain name bonanza. I owned Newsmonthly.com for a silly zine I tried maintaining in 5th grade and sold the domain for $500 dollars on eBay.
This was like winning the lottery for a 6th grader. I received a money order for that amount in the mail but I was never able to contact that person again afterwards — he never responded (phone/email) to anything after confirming that he sent the money. So, I never transferred the domain name and I kept the money. And spent every bit of it on an Ice Handspring Visor with the hilarious modem attachment for which I never added a service subscription. The change leftover was used to purchase this hat to advertise my excitement, I suppose.
Lucky fortune well spent.
UPDATE: Archive.org has some of the early Newsmonthly frontpages. And I do mean FrontPage.
